The concept of affordability, essentially denoting the ability to purchase, is becoming increasingly strained as inflation rates surge. However, there exists an alternative avenue – the capacity to cultivate one's own sustenance, thereby diminishing reliance on commercial transactions. Embracing this prospect aligns seamlessly with a fundamental life philosophy that has proven remarkably prescient in addressing contemporary challenges. This assertion is substantiated by a confluence of common knowledge, available data, and impactful initiatives unfolding on a global scale.



A palpable manifestation of these challenges can be observed in the Philippine context. The stark reality of economic struggles is underscored by the June 2023 inflation rate of 5.4%, the highest recorded in Southeast Asia during that period. This economic turbulence is compounded by an average nationwide wage of Php8,902, a figure significantly below the established poverty threshold of Php12,030, and a far cry from the envisioned income of Php23,260 for June 2023. Schumacher's critique of the detrimental effects of capitalism underscores the need for a paradigm shift, where natural resource conservation takes precedence over profit-driven pursuits.


3. Promoting Ethical Agricultural Practices: Advocating for methods that prioritize freshness and eschew contamination is paramount. For instance, reevaluating the reliance on high-sodium seasonings in Filipino cuisine and exploring healthier alternatives, such as the Mediterranean diet, can contribute to improved health outcomes.

It necessitates a holistic and nuanced approach, embracing sustainable philosophies, advocating for ethical practices across political, economic, and agricultural realms, and making informed dietary choices.
